“At once her senses alerted her to someone else’s presence at the shore. Her inhaled air remained hostage in her chest as her heart almost stopped beating. She tried to run away from the creature slowly pacing toward her, but her legs gave up and would not move an inch from where she was standing. Badr Jamal looked at a human, slowly approaching her. She had never seen any human being in her entire life. She stood dumbfounded and stared at him. There was something in the weak body convincing her so she dropped the idea of running away and felt inside her heart a delicate and unknown feeling of pleasure.”

As Grandma paused, Ali concluded, “And they lived happily ever after.”

Grandma shook her index finger and said, “No, my child, here is the interesting part. Badr Jamal confessed that she couldn’t stay with the Prince.”

“But why?” Usama cried at once.

Grandma smiled at his unexpected emotions. Usama lowered his gaze and blushed.

“Prince Saif asked the same question,” Grandma replied, “as he saw Badr Jamal’s milky white face turn pale and she shuttered like a dry leaf…”

Waiting for the launch of “The Chronicles of Deosai” has been well worth it. A fantastic story of regular Pakistani young people exploring the Himalayas with the famous folktale of Prince Saif-ul-Malook and the fairy Badr Jamal as a backdrop. It’s a must for every Muslim shelf. – A Lover of Islamic Fiction, Ontario, Canada

It was pure pleasure reading about the renowned story of the Egyptian Prince Saif and his love for Badr Jamal. If you haven’t heard about Mian Muhammad Bakhsh, the 19th century mystic poet, you can get a glimpse of his rendition in The Chronicles of Deosai. It’s compelling me to take a trip to the beautiful wildness of Pakistan’s mountain ranges just to see the Lake of Tears in the Land of the Giants. – A Muslim Convert, Chicago

Looking for a good book to take you out of this world. It’s “The Chronicles of Deosai.” Everything’s in it – fables, folktales and fantasy, a rip-roaring adventure, with fairies and giants, a sad old troll, a fairy queen who wants to take over the world, twists and turns, death and imprisonment… A great addition to the growing list of Islamic fiction for everyone, boys and girls, young men and women, even a 72-year-old! – Ali, Toronto
